He has previously served as Head Coach for two Alberta summer swim clubs — Beaverlodge (2025) and Brooks (2003) — and is currently based in Toronto, where he works as a lifeguard and swim instructor with the City of Toronto and as a coach with Rocket Swim Club.
John has coached swimmers across Quebec, Alberta, and Ontario since 1980 and is NCCP 301 trained. As an athlete, John swam competitively from 1970–1998 in South Africa, Quebec, and Ontario, competing at the National level as both an age-group and Masters swimmer.
